Ultimate COLOR Block Prediction by Thomas Pohle

One of my favorite Alan Warner effects is Mini Mental and I still think it is one of the cleanest and cleverest pieces of mentalism that Alan (or anyone else) has produced.  In 2016 Magic Wagon released their Elite Premonition which took Alan's idea and made it easier to perform. The great German craftsman Will Wessel also created his wonderful version called Colored Number Blocks.

Back in 2019 Thomas Pohle released what is probably the cleverest version of all - The Ultimate Block Prediction. It is different from all of the above versions and is easily the cleanest and most perplexing I have seen.  No matter how closely you look everything looks 100% above board - you can look from all angles there is nothing to see and nothing to hide.   And yet no matter which order of blocks and numbers the spectator chooses the magicians prediction is always correct.

This is Color version which has been improved again and produced in even more limited numbers. It improves on Thomas' previous version in these way:

  • in addition to predicting the numbers chosen by the spectator - the reveals also match the color of the block!
  • more importantly - the construction of the blocks has been upgraded.
  • it's possible to reveal them with the numbers written in your own hand on a white backing written in the same color as the block.

Even if you are familiar with the other versions, you will likely still be fooled by this version. You will marvel at how smoothly this bad boy operates - it is amazing!

Effect: Begin with the four blocks on the table in front of the stand. Turn each one to show the four different numbers on each block. Slowly and casually tilt one or two to display the bottoms of the blocks which will appear completely normal and solid extremely close up. Then mix the blocks (if you want) by sliding them around on the table. Casually display the stand by revolving it to show all sides. The secret sliding panel will close when the top of the stand is face on to the spectator - and then open again automatically when it's revolved back into position.

Have a spectator choose a block and which number they want. You could have them actually pick up the block and hand it to you - then have them direct you to where it should be placed on the stand. This is usually a safe action as I find most normal people will simply pick up the block and hand it to you as requested. (They won't shake it up and down or throw it in the air!)

As you place the block on the stand and slide it to the front of that section, the work is done. Repeat for the other three blocks.

Slide open the covering panel on the front and display the prediction - not only did you know which numbers would be chosen - but where each colored block would be placed on the stand!

Remember these points:

  • the number of free choices available to the spectator is huge, as each block has four different numbers and there are four different colors. You are no longer limited to an arrangement of only four choices!
  • how freely the blocks are displayed - Thomas says they could be handled by the spectator as the work is so well concealed. Something not possible with Warner's model or the variation by Magic Wagon.
  • no forces or equivoque - spectator has free selection of numbers and where the blocks should be placed
  • the work is silent, unlike similar effects
  • no magnets or magnetic shims
